FC 778 – Fine Paper Application During fall 2003, Cesco Solutions was asked to engineer a program designed to improve machine performance at the press section of a machine producing about 250 tpd of envelope and printing paper. The original issue centered around poor sheet quality, resulting from felt-filling and irregular de-watering, indicated by increased uhle box vacuum, uneven moisture and permeability profiles, and streaking in the press felts. Upon examination, it was determined the felt was being plugged with various sheet fillers including calcium carbonate. The subsequent felt streaking, which produced irregular moisture profiles, was preventing production gains due to increased drying demand and limited capabilities.
