FORCE Technology’s white paper explores how sensors and IoT are shaping future designs for autonomous underwater drones. Current systems are divided into ROVs (remotely operated) and AUVs (autonomous), with hybrids emerging to expand range and autonomy. Sensors are central: optical cameras, LiDAR, sonar, CTD (conductivity, temperature, depth), magnetometers, and chemical sensors (nitrates, oxygen, methane, CO₂) enable navigation, inspection, and environmental monitoring. AI and IoT integration will allow real-time data processing, predictive maintenance, and more autonomous missions. Future applications range from offshore energy inspections to undersea labs and data centers.
