While some government agencies are still becoming familiar with the basics of robotic process automation (RPA), the pressure is already mounting for them to jump to the next level. Agencies already have plenty of reasons for adopting RPA. Their growing use of cloud infrastructures in agency modernization projects creates an environment too large and too complex to manage and secure without automation. Agencies also have mandates to adopt advanced technologies as part of modernization. The President’s Management Agenda, for example, directs agencies to take employees and resources away from low-value repetitive administrative tasks so they can focus on high-value mission-related work.
