Developing a Safety Culture in the Healthcare Workplace
Healthcare workers, comprising 12% of the U.S. private workforce, face significant workplace hazards. In 2011, over 631,000 healthcare-related injuries and illnesses were reported. These incidents not only affect worker well-being but also result in substantial economic costs, estimated at $13 billion annually. To address these challenges, fostering a comprehensive safety culture is essential. Such a culture involves integrated safety programs, risk reduction strategies, and continuous learning, ultimately enhancing both worker safety and patient care quality.
