The Akraino–IOWN GF white paper outlines a joint effort to address rising AI computing demands, power constraints, and edge scalability limits. LF Edge’s open, hardware-agnostic platform integrates with IOWN GF’s Data Centric Infrastructure (DCI) to boost performance, reduce latency, and improve energy efficiency. DCI enables resource disaggregation and direct accelerator-to-accelerator connections via optical links, cutting CPU load and power use. The Proof of Concept demonstrates video AI inference across edge–cloud, showing improved throughput and lower consumption, with potential for flexible, photonic-connected edge networks into the 2030s.
