800G Client Optics in the Data Center

Pages 14 Pages

Hyperscale cloud growth and AI/ML workloads are driving rapid adoption of 800G client optics in data centers. Building on 400G lessons, 800G uses PAM4 modulation, advanced FEC, silicon photonics, and double-density form factors like QSFP-DD800 and OSFP800. These enable higher bandwidth, reduced complexity, and backward compatibility with 100G/400G modules. Early 25.6T switches with 32×800G ports cut power, cost, and footprint—replacing six 12.8T systems. Use cases include high-density AI clusters, HPC, and video processing with breakouts to 2×400GE or 8×100GE links. With IEEE 802.3df/3dj standards in progress, the ecosystem is primed for fast 800G rollout.
