State of Medical Device Cybersecurity

Medical devices are more like personal computers, servers, and consumer IoT than ever before. As a result, threat actors are focusing more on medical devices, employing the same vulnerabilities with significantly greater impact. Modern medical devices are shifting focus from traditional purpose-built embedded hardware to software devices with cloud connectivity. With the exception of implantable devices and other hardware-critical devices, competitive differentiators in the manufacturing space are now algorithms, applications, and data. This shift has increased the number of manufacturers employing general-purpose computer hardware and with it realizing significant cost savings and reduced time-to-market.
