Manual Approach to Managing Non-Employee and Non-Human Identities Leads to Security Issues

Based on a global survey of 339 IT and security professionals, this research paper reveals widespread security gaps in managing non-employee and non-human identities. While 97% of companies grant non-employee access and 88% grant non-human access, 54% report security incidents due to inappropriate privileges. Manual processes dominate provisioning and deprovisioning, leading to orphaned and duplicate identities. Many organizations lack real-time visibility into non-human access, increasing compliance and breach risk. The report concludes that automation and purpose-built identity platforms are essential to reduce manual errors, enforce least privilege, and mitigate third-party exposure.
