How data centers and the energy sector can sate AI’s hunger for power
The rapid adoption of AI has significantly increased demand for data centers, which in turn has intensified the need for power. By 2030, US data centers are expected to require 2.5 times the current power capacity, accounting for 11-12% of total US electricity demand. However, constraints such as power availability, long equipment lead times, and labor shortages challenge this growth. Investors have opportunities in power infrastructure, renewable energy, and data center development, particularly in secondary markets with access to cheaper power sources.
