Broadening Access to Private Markets

Broadening Access to Private Markets

The World Economic Forum’s 2023 report, in collaboration with Accenture, Lazard, Apollo, AXA and others, explores how to responsibly broaden retail access to private markets. While private equity, credit, infrastructure and real estate can enhance returns, generate income and diversify portfolios, barriers persist: high minimums, illiquidity, limited transparency, and regulatory constraints. Risks include mispricing, adverse selection, and investor mismanagement. The paper urges multistakeholder action: expand financial education, tailor products to liquidity needs, improve secondary markets, standardize reporting, and support data sharing. Done responsibly, access could boost wealth creation and economic growth.
