Delinea’s 2022 Global Research Report surveyed over 2,000 IT security leaders to assess privileged access maturity. It found that 84% experienced an identity-related breach in 18 months, mainly due to weak credential protection. While 90% recognize identity security as vital, only 40% say their strategies keep pace with threats. Over 60% lack PAM best practices such as MFA, session monitoring, or IAM integration. Most focus on human accounts, leaving machine identities vulnerable. Despite plans for incremental improvements, 75% doubt they’ll secure privileged identities due to limited budgets and executive alignment. The report urges risk-based PAM adoption, automation, and leadership engagement for lasting security improvement.
