The CyberArk 2025 Identity Security Landscape report highlights how AI has become both a defender and an attacker, driving an explosion of machine identities now outnumbering humans by more than 80 to 1. Nine in ten organizations experienced an identity-centric breach, with phishing, vishing, and AI-driven deepfakes as leading causes. Shadow AI use, lack of identity controls for AI tools, and identity silos further amplify risks, with 70% citing silos as a root cause of exposure. Machine identities, often unmanaged, are increasingly privileged, creating an expanding attack surface. To reduce risk, organizations must redefine privilege to include machines, consolidate fragmented tools, and adopt Zero Trust and intelligent privilege controls.
