2024 Incentive compensation and governance practices in US banks
Deloitte’s 2024 survey of 25 US banks reveals that most use simple bonus metrics focused on earnings and returns, with growing collaboration across HR and risk functions. While 56% don’t mandate bonus deferrals, long-term incentives are typically offered to VPs and above. Many banks lack comprehensive individual risk assessments, and over 50 incentive plans can cause compliance risk. Key 2025 priorities include tailoring rewards to a diverse workforce, improving governance, and aligning pay with strategic risk and performance goals.
