To maintain network operation, one must guard against four main DNS attack types: DNS Amplification attacks, which use spoofed IPs to overwhelm victims with amplified responses; DNS Flood attacks, which overload servers with seemingly legitimate requests until unresponsive; Phantom Domain attacks, which overwhelm victims by requesting resolution for non-existent domains; and Water Torture (Pseudo Random Subdomain) attacks, which slowly exhaust DNS server resources.
