During the Labor Day sales period, Cequence reports saving retail customers $3.8M by blocking 26.7M account takeover attempts, while the sector saw a 79% year-over-year surge in blocked bot traffic and the share of malicious traffic jump from about 10% to 20% (a 96% increase), with total blocked bot traffic reaching 435% of normal and malicious volume up 2,724% in one major sales event. It also notes 6.7B API transactions protected in the first week of the iPhone 16 debut, with 37% deemed malicious, and recommends drills, API inventory, business-goal prioritization, stronger monitoring, and MFA.
