The 2023 Zscaler ThreatLabz report highlights a 400% rise in IoT malware attacks, with Mirai and Gafgyt being the most prevalent. Manufacturing, food, beverage, tobacco, and education sectors were the hardest hit, with over two-thirds of attacks targeting routers. A significant number of IoT exploits targeted vulnerabilities over three years old. To defend against these threats, the report recommends maintaining visibility into IoT devices, protecting admin credentials, enforcing an IoT/OT security framework, and implementing a zero trust architecture.
