The 2023 roadside inspection statistics for the U.S. and Canada show 2,874,811 total inspections and 4,775,262 violations, with 1,128,609 vehicle inspections resulting in 421,761 out-of-service violations. Brake-related issues account for 46 percent of top violations, followed by lights and signals at 21 percent, tires at 15 percent, and windshields at 7 percent. The top violations include inoperable lamps, registration issues, lack of periodic inspection proof, unsecured fire extinguishers, brake adjustment problems, inoperative turn signals, and tire air leaks. Vehicles placed out of service represent an estimated 150 million dollars in lost revenue.
