The 2022 Observability Forecast for Australia and New Zealand highlights tool fragmentation, limited budgets, and staffing shortages as key barriers to full-stack observability. Only 29% cited adequate IT performance, and none used a single tool—most used 6–7. Interruptions were mainly detected via multiple tools (57%) or manual checks (52%). Despite challenges, 75–83% foresaw needing observability for AI, and C-suite advocacy was strong. Australia focused on AI-readiness (49%), while New Zealand aligned observability with DevOps adoption (44%). Future investments include APM, ML model monitoring (45%), synthetic monitoring (39%), and serverless support (37%).
