2020 State of Encrypted Attacks
In 2020, Zscaler’s ThreatLabZ team analyzed over 6.6 billion sessions for their "State of Encrypted Attacks" report, revealing a significant increase in threats hidden within SSL-encrypted traffic. Key findings include a 260% rise in SSL threats, with 30% originating from cloud-based file-sharing services and a 500% increase in ransomware over SSL. The healthcare industry was the most targeted, accounting for 25.5% of these threats, followed by finance/insurance and manufacturing sectors. Cybercriminals also exploited popular brands like Microsoft and Google for phishing attacks, emphasizing the importance of SSL traffic inspection for robust security.
