ZF implemented a data-driven optimization environment to design modular electric motor platforms more efficiently while maximizing shared components across product families. Faced with an enormous number of possible motor configurations, ZF needed an automated approach to balance cost, performance, and production constraints. Using Altair’s eMotor Director, engineers explored multiphysics simulations, reduced-order models, and design-of-experiments to evaluate platform-level tradeoffs. The solution enabled flexible definition of shared and individual parameters across motors while providing real-time feedback on feasible configurations.
