1 CASE STUDY Challenge Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, one of metro Boston’s premier medical facilities, had outgrown its main campus at 41 Mall Road in Burlington, MA. The hospital, which features a twenty-four-hour emergency department, a Level II trauma center, over 300 hospital beds and an ambulatory care center, needed to relocate its general internal medicine (GIM) department through a fit out of a nearby 37,000-square- foot site. In addition, the hospital required a 4,000-square-foot diagnostic fit out on the first floor complete with a pharmacy, two X-ray units, and a blood specimen collection area.
