CHALLENGE Student and staff safety had been a primary concern in the Wa-Nee Community Schools for years and had become a heightened priority over the last decade. From transportation to receiving, and from labs to kitchens, safe practices and injury prevention received strong emphasis. By 2014, the nationwide increase in school violence and similar uptick in unauthorized custody-related contacts and abductions convinced Wa-Nee officials to explore additional measures that would increase school security and further enhance the district’s culture of safety.
