Case Study: Compañia Electrica El Platanal S.A. Background Update an environmental management plan as Compañía Eléctrica El Platanal S.A. plans to expand a reservoir in Peru. Our Approach El Platanal, fed by the Cañete River in southern Peru’s Andean foothills, will be the country’s second largest hydroelectric plant. Project costs exceed US$200 million and operations are set to start in 2009. Capacity for the seasonal regulation reservoir at Paucarcocha lagoon was approved at approximately 72 million yd3 in 1999, however, modifications of the project, involving the reduction of a significant section of the project, require the expansion of the reservoir to nearly 92 million yd3.
