The University of Pisa, one of the oldest European universities, consolidated its previously distributed IT infrastructure—which was spread across 250 buildings—into a centralized data center outside the city starting in 2016. This new data center has grown to support around 25,000 CPU and GPU cores and stores 12 petabytes of data, serving high-performance computing and cloud infrastructure needs. The University selected the VAST Data platform because of its high performance, scalability, and flexibility to support a wide variety of demanding workloads ranging from traditional HPC to AI, including drug development and engineering simulations. VAST’s storage solution integrates well with NVIDIA DGX cluster.
