The smaller practice networks run the cybersecurity gamut, with some having moderate protections and most having very little. Connecting the networks outright would have gone against good security practices. The unknown security of the smaller networks could potentially introduce unintended infiltration (ransomware, malware) and exfiltration (EHR records, billing) points into the secure enterprise network.
