Project Highlights: T. Y . Lin International was retained to develop plans and contract documents for the rehabilitation of Movable Dam 9 at Lock E-13 on the Mohawk River/Erie Canal. The dam consists of two 186.5-foot steel trusses supporting 15 vertical lift gates. Constructed in 1914 with modifications added in 1924, the dam was severely deteriorated, requiring remediation of the structural steel superstructure and gates, as well as the substructure units and concrete aprons. Rehabilitation of the mechanical components and DC electrical system are also included in the project scope. As large cofferdams are employed to dewater each span for construction, a detailed hydraulic analysis of the cofferdam impacts was also required as part of the design package.
