Swansea University’s medical school secures access to its highly sensitive Secure Anonymised Information Linkage (SAIL) Databank using Yubico’s YubiKeys for strong two-factor authentication. This prevents unauthorized access and healthcare data breaches by requiring users to authenticate with both username/password and a YubiKey. The YubiKey’s ease of deployment—emulating a keyboard with no driver installation—enabled fast, scalable remote user adoption across multiple platforms while reducing support costs. The success has led to wider YubiKey deployments in other university research projects.
