The project was to construct a new teaching block to provide 8 additional classrooms for the students at Southend High School for Girls. The new two storey teaching block extension comprised deep strip and reinforced pad foundations with a structural steel frame. The ground floor was constructed using a precast slab, precast staircase with a facing brickwork fascade. The first floor comprised a Ribdec slab and blockwork walling with Trespa rainscreen cladding. The design changed slightly replacing the clerestory windows with facing brickwork to better suit the Skillion Kalzip roof design. The teaching block extension was located within a live school and positioned over part of the existing tennis courts. Swipe card access control onto site and restricted delivery times put in pl
