Ski Resort Increases Productivity by Unloading Transformer - Macungie, PA A Pennsylvania ski resort approached Myron Zucker, Inc. to apply power factor correction to snow-making equipment. Without capacitors, the ski resort would have to invest a large amount of money in a new power distribution system or larger transformers. After reviewing the project and the equipment that could be treated, MZI determined that the best approach would be an at-the-load method, placing the capacitors as close to the motors as possible. The benefits of this method were two-fold: Power factor correction Reduction in line loses, as the conductors for the snow making guns are very long and waste a great deal of energy in heat losses MZI mounted Traymount® capacitors inside the existing equipment enclosures.
