An ultra-high molecular-weight polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) additive from Dow Corning has been proven to reduce the coefficient of friction in finished parts, improving slip performance in the manufacturing of locking plugs for environmental testing wells. The additive acts as an internal lubricant during processing, improving flow and mold release. “The excellent mold release characteristics and outstanding performance this additive had on our parts was a dramatic difference when compared to other additives,” commented president Tom Koby. Unlike some of the various additives that were tested by the company for this application, the pelletized siloxane polymer dispersed in PP is easily added to the polymer mix via automated metering.
