Healthcare providers in every setting face the daunting task of trying to reach and sustain quality goals. There is no greater challenge in meeting these goals than tackling sepsis care. Sepsis identification is often missed or delayed because: 1) providers don’t suspect sepsis, 2) diagnosis is complex, and 3) organizations lack a systematic approach. This problem is not unique to SCH or critical access hospitals – it’s pervasive in hospitals of all sizes worldwide. Sheridan County Hospital is an 18-bed Critical Access Hospital in the Northwest Kansas community of Hoxie. In 2016, SCH identified and treated 5 sepsis cases. According to CDC data, sepsis represents 6% of all hospitalizations nationally and SCH estimated they should have treated more than twice that numb
