Severn Trent is working with Open Energi to unlock demand flexibility from its equipment, and aims to provide over 20MW of flexible capacity from across its network by 2020. The company is using Open Energi’s Dynamic Demand technology to enable equipment such as pumps, motors and blowers to automatically adjust their power use second-by-second. Open Energi’s technology has been installed at two sewage treatment works. Together these two sites are providing National Grid with around 1.2MW of real-time flexibility. Delivering a dynamic frequency response service from “always on” assets, within a highly regulated, customer facing industry, is operationally challenging. Open Energi has ensured that the integration has zero impact on process operating parameters.
