A global designer of custom-engineered heating and deicing systems and controls for the rail and mass transit industry sought an improved solution to provide comfort heat in the cabins of subway and passenger train cars, replacing traditional strip and baseboard heaters. The new heating panel concept included two silicone laminate heaters bonded to a metal panel, mounted to the car’s internal cabin area. The large, thin panels provide several advantages, including a large heated surface to provide even heat over the car’s volume, plus touch-safe surfaces and reduced wiring.- Chromalox provided the flexibility required to meet the tight tolerances and avoid wiring terminator issues. SLB heaters are used on different sized heating panels within the customers’ range of offerings.
