Royal Victoria Infirmary - Newcastle Upon Tyne CHALLENGES AND OBJECTIVES Originally founded in 1751 as the Newcastle Infirmary the Royal Victoria Infirmary is a major teaching hospital while also being the only place in the North East that provides Mohs micrographic surgery for skin cancer. This project was part of a £295 million PFI scheme that was a crucial part in revolutionising healthcare in the local area. With any redesign of this kind of facility there needs to be a balance between the needs of the staff and patients and keeping costs down where possible. This can be difficult as cheaper materials may not necessarily be durable.
