RETROBUOYTM INSTALLED ON NORTH SEA PLATFORM COMPLEX TO EXTEND LIFE OF JACKETS
THE PROBLEM The Leman Alpha offshore asset is a five-platform bridge-connected complex located in the UK sector of the Southern North Sea approximately 50km from Bacton. The complex is jointly owned by Shell and ExxonMobil, and operated by Shell. The original platforms were installed in 1967 and the produced gas is exported to Bacton gas terminal via pipeline. The gas produced from a number of surrounding platforms is also processed on Leman Alpha before being exported to Bacton. Shell have been going through a series of upgrade projects to extend the life of the complex for the next decades. It was determined that the original anodes installed on the AD1 jacket were nearing the end of their useful life, and the anodes on the other original jackets (AD2, AK and AP) would likely
