QMU Edinburgh Campus CUSTOMER: QUEEN MARGARET UNIVERSITY PROJECT DETAILS: NEW EDINBURGH CAMPUS NIFES SERVICES: BIOMASS HEATING DESIGN & ENERGY MANAGEMENT BACKGROUND In 2007 Queen Margaret University moved from their previous sites within Edinburgh to a new purpose-designed facility in Musselburgh, on the edge of the city. In addition to providing excellent academic facilities and accommodation for 800 students, they sought to set new standards in sustainable design. A central Energy Centre uses woodchip as the primary Fuel source, dramatically reducing the carbon emissions associated with the provision of heating and hot water to the entire campus.
