Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD), after a data breach exposing student grade information caused by compromised teacher credentials, partnered with Yubico to enhance security. They implemented YubiKey authentication, deploying over 3,000 YubiKeys to staff. These hardware security keys provide strong, phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication (MFA), protecting sensitive student data and various applications. The YubiKey 5Ci, supporting both Lightning and USB-C devices, helped overcome initial adoption hurdles. Today, all PAUSD staff use YubiKeys daily, with increasing parent adoption for secure access to services.
