By law sites using chlorine to treat water must monitor wind speed and direction; should a leak occur in the stored chlorine they need to instigate an evacuation down-wind. For this Essex & Suffolk Water use the OMC-160 industrial wind speed and direction sensors on sites such as Hanningfield Reservoir.
