Challenge: A Multinational Energy Corporation wanted to improve communication and collaboration by modernizing to IP telephony in one of their US facilities. The facility produces nuclear nodes, and like all nuclear plants, there is a major restriction to any building alterations. The customer wanted to upgrade all 2,400 of their legacy phones, however many of the devices were supported by infrastructure that could not be tampered with. Long runs of CAT3 cable ran through “hot areas” of the facility, these were areas that had equipment tainted with radiation, and this equipment was completely hands-off.
