1 Moonwalk NEW ORLEANS, LA Landscape Forms Elements: Ashbery Area Lights, Ashbery Path Lights, Presidio Benches, Poe Litters Design Partners: Perez Moonwalk is a mile-long walkway that runs along the French Quarter and connects the river with well-known New Orleans landmarks, including Washington Artillery Park, Jackson Square, and Woldenberg Park. The Moonwalk, named after Mayor Moon Landrieu who led its development, first opened in 1975. The walkway was originally a wooden boardwalk. In the 1980s, it underwent a reconstruction that introduced more hardscape elements into the walkway.
