The process involved diverting the water run-off with the earthwork dam so that it passed through a series of new settlement pools and wetland reed beds, to create a natural filtration and purification system. An important requirement of the project was to securely seal the joints in and between all of the concrete structures and external slabs, to ensure that none of the contaminated water could leak into the groundwater and pollute the environment.
