Middlesbrough College MC6
Niven Architects were asked by Middlesbrough College to undertake the design of a new 6th Form College at the historic Middlehaven site on the banks of the River Tees. The design solution for MC6 was based around a red cube which cleverly weaves in the facade of an old sail making works which is a listed building. This ensures a link between the ‘new and the old’ whilst providing wonderful views of the iconic Transporter Bridge. The building consists of a 2,200 sqm centre designed to cater for 500 students and sta and features 13 classrooms, changing facilities plus a cafe, bistro and a student common room.
