LoRaWAN-enabled Recycled Water Irrigation in Commercial Developments

Pages 1 Pages

Parkes Shire Council in New South Wales implemented a LoRaWAN-enabled recycled water irrigation system to create a drought-resilient, sustainable alternative to freshwater irrigation for parks and green spaces. Built in 2020, the scheme uses Milesight IoT devices (UC501 controller and EM300-UDL level sensor) to monitor water meters and dam levels in near real time, transmitting data through The Things Network into Indicium Dynamics’ digital twin platform. The system automates valve control, water quality management, leak detection, and reporting via cloud analytics, ensuring compliance and efficient allocation of recycled water. Compared to legacy equipment, the upgraded solution reduced hardware footprint, improved battery life, and increased monitoring frequency. The result is smarter water management, improved conservation, operational flexibility, and a scalable model for sustainable municipal irrigation.
