THE CHALLENGE... Enviroenergy Ltd own and operate a district heating system in Nottingham. In order to improve their cost efficiencies, they needed a borehole water supply. A water supply borehole had been constructed previously but the Environment Agency had resisted issuing an abstraction licence. The site is located in the centre of Nottingham and was considered by the Environment Agency to be situated in a closed groundwater management unit. Envireau Water accepted the challenge to develop a pathway to licensing but needed to find a way of demonstrating that the proposed abstraction was sustainable and licensable.
