Through the OHDSI LEGEND framework, IQVIA contributed to the largest-ever study on first-line antihypertensive drugs, analyzing 4.9M patients across nine databases. Results showed thiazide diuretics were more effective than ACE inhibitors at reducing myocardial infarction, stroke, and heart failure risk, with 18 safety endpoints also more favorable. Despite this, ACE inhibitors remained the most prescribed therapy. The study, published in The Lancet, demonstrated how federated network analyses deliver robust comparative effectiveness evidence to guide guideline updates.
