He indicated the department had to repair damage between the fire engine cabs and trailers on a regular basis. When these fire engines and trailers need to make sharp turns, the radius of the turn caused the engine cab to bump into the trailer causing metal fatigue and impact damage. Kellett developed a special bumper mount that was installed on the engine cab.
