Case Study: Jewish Museum The New Glass-Roofed Courtyard Berlin, Germany The Project The original courtyard of the baroque Old Building at the Jewish Museum has been transformed by a glass façade and roof structure, designed by Daniel Libeskind. The courtyard is now a large, light and spacious events hall of which a wide section at ground fl oor level opens out directly onto the museum garden. The extensive use of glass to facilitate high transparency is in keeping with the wishes expressed by the authorities responsible for the preservation of historical monuments. The structure also boasts a fascinating innovation through the unconventional use of steel which forms a complex array of custom made, intricate branches and treetops.
