While celebrating the huge success of its Qube leisure and dining area on the one hand, Intu Metrocentre in Gateshead was left with a mounting problem on the other, namely how to deal with the food waste - approximately 350 tonnes of it per year. With the introduction of eleven new restaurants in the Qube complex a new solution to waste management was needed quickly and IMC provided the answer with the installation of its Autofeed waste system to process the food waste. The unit is sited in a purpose-built room to provide retailers with the facility to separate out the food waste, avoiding the need to dispose of it in general waste bins.
