THE CHALLENGE... Our client, a quarry operator, is required to restore a 500ha site to a conservation wetland comprising over 20 cells, fed by a high level carrier ‘canal’ filled, when necessary, from a river at an abstraction rate of 5 cumecs. In order to check and agree the functioning of the hydraulics with third parties, a cost effective yet robust method of assessment was needed. This specific wetland had to be designed to be able to: · Withstand potential scour and bow wave effects for 5 cumecs entering the high level carrier; · Manage the gravity transfer from the carrier through numerous sluice offtakes into the wetland cells; · Manage the gravity movement between cells to the lowest level of the wetland and re
