The University of Maryland, a major public research institution managing 2.5 petabytes of data across platforms like Google Drive, Office 365, and Box, partnered with BigID to reduce its exposure to sensitive data stored in the cloud. Despite policies restricting sensitive data storage, user behavior created hidden risks. BigID’s discovery and classification capabilities enabled UMD to identify and remediate improperly stored sensitive information, significantly lowering risk across its large workforce and data ecosystem. Through this initiative, the university saved over $5 million in potential risk exposure while strengthening data protection and compliance.
